THE marriage COURSE

The Marriage Course is a series of seven sessions, designed to help couples invest in their relationship and build a strong marriage. During the 90-minute session, you will spend roughly 75 minutes watching a video and having a conversation with your spouse. You will then spend about 15 minutes together with a group of 4 or 5 other couples discussing what information you found the most helpful that evening. (You will not be sharing anything about your own marriage with the group.)

These seven sessions are designed to help couples build strong foundations, learn to communicate more effectively, and resolve differences well. These sessions are for couples who are seeking to strengthen their relationship. Some couples do the course to intentionally invest in their relationship while others are looking to address more specific challenges. Either way, this offers essential tools and practical ideas to help you build a relationship that lasts a lifetime. The content covered is based on Christian principles but designed for all couples with or without a church background.

Over seven sessions you will explore:

  • Strengthening Connection
  • The Art of Communication
  • Resolving Conflict
  • The Power of Forgiveness
  • The Impact of Family
  • Good Sex
  • Love in Action

Weddings

Are you preparing for marriage and wondering about a Sun Valley pastor performing your wedding ceremony? We would love to talk with you more about how we can assist as you take your next steps toward becoming husband and wife. This is truly an exciting moment in your life and we consider it an honor to walk with you through the process.

Your first step in the Sun Valley wedding process is to complete and submit the Wedding Inquiry Form. This form will get you started in the process and help you get connected to a pastor who can officiate your wedding.

After you complete the form above, we will be in touch with you to schedule an appointment with a Sun Valley pastor. If you requested a specific pastor, we will do our best to connect you with your preferred pastor depending on their availability. During this initial meeting, you will have an opportunity to get to know the pastor, learn more about the pre-marriage process, and begin a conversation about your wedding ceremony.

The pastoral fee for officiating a wedding is $350.00 plus any travel expenses associated with ceremonies located outside the Phoenix area. The honorarium is due at the wedding rehearsal.

If you would like to have your wedding onsite at one of our campuses, you will be provided a wedding coordinator who will help you make the preparations for your wedding venue. After you complete the Wedding Inquiry form, you will be sent a packet of information about onsite weddings and a wedding contract. To reserve your venue you will need to sign the contract and turn in the initial deposit.

At Sun Valley Community Church, we believe that a successful marriage begins before the ceremony, so we ask each couple to participate in PreMarriage which helps engaged and seriously dating couples prepare for a healthy, lifelong marriage. This 4-week class includes weekly teaching on what makes a healthy marriage, conversation with a marriage mentor couple, and the results of an assessment tool that will help couples gain valuable insights about each other.

The cost of PreMarriage is $50 and child-care is provided onsite for an additional fee. We strongly recommend completing the process at least 6 months prior to your wedding date.

Finally, you and your officiating pastor will plan the wedding ceremony. You will discuss items like the order of service, music, readings, and the role of your wedding party. If you are planning an onsite wedding, your wedding coordinator will assist you in furnishings, decorations, dressing rooms, etc.
